Budget Friendly 2017 Sephora VIB sale picks

Hello! The Sephora VIB sale is just around the corner (Nov 10 - 15th), is your wallet ready for it? Usually prior to the sale I binge watched/read all the Sephora sale recommendation posts I can manage to find.  I then add all the items to my shopping cart and a sense of panic comes over me when I realize the total is equivalent to a month's worth of mortgage payment (or two!).  SOMETIMES I come to my senses and purge my shopping cart once or twice  and end up with a somewhat appropriate list of "must-haves".  This year is one of those rare times that I am sensible (somewhat) when it came to my purchases. I thought I'd share it with those of you who'd rather prefer a reasonable approach to shopping (but is there ever such thing as "reason" when it comes to shopping?) Enjoy this curated list of SEPHORA MUST-HAVES!

Ah... I'm sure I'm quite late on the bandwagon but I still recommend getting this palette if you don't already own a warm palette.  I contemplated between ABH, Urban Decay heat, Huda Dessert Dusk and the Natasha Denona sunset palette.  I feel that this palette offered the most versatility for every day and special occasion wear.  I found UD heat to have too many similar colours.  Natasha Denona sunset is a beautiful palette but at $166 cad I just couldn't justify it! Also I'm not a big fan of giltter shadows so I crossed the Huda palette off my list.  I picked this one up in stores during the VIB rouge sale but it was and is available online.  Whereas the ND sunset palette sold out immediately!

I've heard quite a bit about Drunk Elephant's line but I didn't not want to dish out for the full size products.  This set contains the two products that I'm most interested in trying: Marula Oil and Glycolic Peel.  I will keep you posted on the results from these two products.

I have gone through many bottles of the Shu Uemura cleansing oil in my days.  It's been my HG for years although occasionally I stray and try other brands.  I have had good luck with Shiseido products in the past (their Ibuki purifying cleanser is a staple) so I thought I'd try their cleansing oil.  This set is a REALLY GOOD DEAL! I usually don't like sets as they usually have many miniature products that I never end up using.  However this set contains a 300ml bottle of the cleansing oil and a 30ml bottle of my favourite ibuki cleanser.   For reference, a 450ml bottle of Shu Uemura can cost anywhere from $79cad to $98cad and the ones I like are in the latter price group.  This set came out to $0.13/mL vs. 0.22/mL of Shu Uemura.  WOW! It currently shows out of stock in my cart, so if you're planning on buying this set during the sale, I'd recommend shop early!

I have repurchased this face cream multiple times for my husband and I over the years.  Although he has been using this a lot more than I have (I like trying new products) but I can attest to the hydrating ability of this product.  For reference I have combination and acne-prone skin.  This cream has no bells and whistles but is great at doing the one thing that it claims... HYDRATE.  It does not break me out and is extremely budget friendly.

I ran out of my usual brush cleaner so I thought I give this product a try.  It's a good price but I'm not sure how long it will last.  But I'm really interested in trying out the pink pad!

To be perfectly honest, this was an impulse buy for me. I have been lusting after the Tom Ford lipstick in Violet Fatale for a few years now.  But at $70cad a lipstick, I was never able to justify the cost.  I came across Temptalia's review of the lipstick and it seems like there are plenty of similar colours on the market.  Urban Decay's vice lipstick in afterdark was one of the most similar colours.  To be honest, this was a bit of an impulse buy, so I'd recommend trying on their lipsticks in store if you can.

Alright, I had a tough time tracking down this Kevyn Aucoin contour powder! These are currently all sold out on Sephora but keep an eye out for their return during the VIB sale.  The contour book volume II is what I ended up finding at my local Sephora.  The 4 contour and highlight shades are all FULL SIZE! So basically for $25 extra, you get 3 additional shades and 4 eyeshadows.  How can I pass this up? However I feel that the most economical set is the duo at $33.  I don't know about you but it takes me ages to go through a contour powder (if I ever do I will let you know).  Although the duo contains less product but it's definitely enough to keep me going for a while (until I find my next must-try powder).

Hopefully you found this list helpful in navigating the sale.  Happy shopping!

I can see my lashes!!

(Transferred from my post on Asian beauty blog)

Hello beauties!

I've decided to test out the Shiseido mascara base that I picked up yesterday with my CG lash blast mascara.
I have the non-waterproof lash blast and I HATE IT WITH A PASSION! it straightens my curled lashes instantly and i hate having to recurl them w/ mascara on..what a pain in the ass!
I heard so many good things about the shiseido base that I decided to give it a try.. i was hoping that it will make my lash blast and all my other non-waterproof mascara work better... and I was SOOO friggin right!! HA!

W/O base, curled lashes w/ ELF curler:

With only base:

One coat of lash blast mascara (non-waterproof) WOOHOOO they stay curled!!!

FOTD:

Look at those lashes!!! *heart*

Stuff I used:

Forgot to add MAC's Hello Kitty lipglass in Nice Kitty to the group photo :) That's the only thing that i used on my lips :)

BYE BYE FOR NOW!!! :)

Haulin!! (deals ++++)

HI EVERYONE!
WELCOME TO MY BLOG!!!

So I woke up at 6:30 on a Saturday morning and dragged my sleepy butt to my local Sephora for their Happy Birthday Barbie event!!! I was expecting a huge line-up b/c the invitation i got mentioned a goodies bag so i got there 15 min before the start of the event to make sure that i pick one of those up :p (why else would i wake up so early and sacrifice my beauty sleep?). I dragged 3 of my friends along with me to the event and i used cake + goodies bag as my bait lol

The line-up wasn't bad at all (felt a lil guilty waking up my friends so early lol) and quickly picked up our goodies bag from the MAs... They gave us each a pink plastic bag with a huge barbie by cake sticker on the front and inside were these(sorry for the blurriness):

Body mousse
not-so-tasty - barbie -chocolate
+ a barbie fridge magnet...

Ya.... It's really not that exciting lol
I didn't pick up anything from the collection by cake cuz nothing really caught my eyes/nose.
But for those of you that love the scent of
freshly baked lemon cookies.. u should definitely check out the cake barbie collection.. the scent is really really pure however everything smelled the exact same (lotion, lip balm, bath gel, etc..)
Also picked up a bottled water w/ a barbie sticker on it... wanted to show u guys cuz i'm a loser like that.. :p

After a nice breakfast w/ the girls, i went back to eaton centre (I'm from Toronto BTW) and decided to check out the new MAC collections that came out and check out the shiseido counter at the bay cuz they are having a GIFT W/ PURCHASE IF U SPEND >$35CAD

I also had one of those
beauty VIP coupons which gives u $10 off for every $50 u spend on beauty products so i wanted to pick up the much-raved Shiseido Mascara Base and the popular Shiseido SPF liquid foundation to make the $50... but little did i know that the liquid foundation i wanted was DISCONTINUED!!! *TEAR* so i spent like 30 min trying to pick out something else and here's what i ended up with:

1. Shiseido Pureness foaming cleansing fluid

2. Shiseido Mascara base

Here's the GWP that came w/ my purchase :)

mostly stuff from the benefiance line

After I did my damage at the Shiseido counter, my roomie and I headed decided to walk around a bit more in the beauty department and we discovered a makeup counter w/ no SA(VERY rare in the bay) and there were huge clear boxes full of products with price stickers all over them... A bargain alarm went off instantly in my head! and the brand was no other than Napoleon Perdis!!! I knew they were d/c all of the stuff cuz i saw them go on clearance on sephora.. but i didn't know the bay had them on sale as well!!! I was soooo excited cuz they had a HUGE selection of products left over too (so if you dont get the moral point of my story yet: GO TO THE BAY NEAREST YOU and load up on NP stuff!!). I didnt go too crazy cuz I really should try to save some moola but i couldn're reisist and picked up these babies:

1. NP Loose powder in translucent ( Originally 33CAD marked down to 16.99CAD!!)

2. NP Mosaic Powder & puff (Originally $39CAD marked down to 12.99CAD)

The powder is super pretty as a highlighter or all over shimmer (if you dont have super oily skin).... the texture and colour reminded me of the Guerlain meteorite powders w/o the hefty price tag of course :)

I persuaded my roomie to pick up the same things and then I used another one of my 10 off 50 coupons so we got even more of a discount!!

Finally, I picked up 2 Essie nail polishes from Trade Secrets in Primavera(Right) and Curtain call (left). They were both marked down from 9.99CAD to 5.99 CAD!!

WHEW!!! That's the end to my first blog post :) I will try and review some or all of these products in the future once i've tried them all... PLEASE FEEL FREE TO LEAVE ME A COMMENT OR QUESTION :) Bye bye for now!
